Describe lavender seed strains without borrowing clone promises

Lavender can be sold as seed, young plants or named vegetatively propagated material. Customers may recognise a name from a plant label and expect a seed packet to reproduce every characteristic of that reference. For retailers, the useful distinction is between the identified seed article and a description borrowed from another propagation route. Clear wording protects the choice without making seed-raised lavender sound more uniform than the evidence supports.

Confirm which reference is being offered

The BSI lavender category contains separate catalogue records, including historical botanical naming. Preserve the full article designation and supplier code when preparing an enquiry. A synonym relationship can explain a name without making every lavender entry the same commercial item. Keep spike lavender and a named seed strain distinguishable where they are separate references.

If a customer asks for a particular named plant, check whether the requested identity matches the seed article. Do not assume that a matching word on a web page proves an identical clone. Ask for supporting information where that distinction affects the planned retail description or the reason the customer is choosing the product.

Keep strain language precise

A seed strain should be described as the documented seed reference it is. Avoid importing exact dimensions, flowering claims or other traits from a photograph or description of an unrelated vegetatively maintained selection. The title may look similar while the material and evidence differ. Keep the source of every important statement with the article record.

This is particularly relevant when artwork is assembled from several files. A designer may select an attractive named-plant photograph while the buyer has ordered a seed strain with a different specification. Review image captions and product identity together before approving the packet. An appealing visual should support the article, not quietly redefine it.

Explain the growing setting

RHS describes lavender as a shrub suited to sun and free-draining conditions. This gives customers useful context for planning a container or garden position. It does not mean that every lavender reference shares identical hardiness or growing behaviour in every climate. Use information relevant to the selected crop and location before making a specific suitability promise.

Also make the starting material clear. A mature flowering image shows a future stage, while the customer is purchasing seed and needs a realistic plan for raising plants. Keep the packet's sowing guidance available and avoid a fixed time-to-display guarantee that is unsupported for the article and growing conditions being discussed.

Review the assortment by purpose

Decide why each lavender seed reference belongs in the range. It may provide a documented identity or characteristic your customers seek. If two candidates cannot be distinguished from the information available, resolve that uncertainty before adding both. Clear differences make the stock easier to manage and the choice easier to explain.

Keep requests about uniformity explicit in the enquiry rather than hiding them in a general request for lavender. The supplier can then answer the actual identity question, and the retailer can preserve that answer beside the reference used for the final label.

Retain the full identity through receiving and retail packing, including the source lot and label version used. Record customer questions about strain names for the next description review. Our Handle rosemary botanical synonyms without duplicating products explores another herb seed selection issue. An accurate lavender line gives the identified seed strain its own supported description instead of inheriting promises made for a different named plant.
